Did you know that some of the area’s restaurants have been around for generations?
They take everyone back in time and offer everything from fish & chips to brick oven pizzas.
Those near our apartments in Anne Arundel County include:
The Horse You Came In On Saloon
Known as The Horse by locals, this saloon has been a Fell’s Point institution since 1775. It’s the country’s oldest continuously operating saloon, and the only bar in Maryland to exist before, during, and after Prohibition. The Horse has welcomed many famous faces, and its name was used as a title of one of Martha Grimes’ mystery capers. Throughout the years, many conversations have been sparked over the nicked wooden bar. The setting comes complete with exposed brick, antiques, and a cozy fireplace. Menu offerings include barn burgers, chicken tacos, and crab cake sliders. The saloon is just a 28-minute drive from our community.
The Owl Bar
At The Owl Bar, located a 29-minute drive away, the motto is “Wise Beyond Our Beers.” It’s found inside the Belvedere and has been a nightlife destination since 1903. During Prohibition, when the owl’s eyes blinked, it meant a shipment of alcohol had arrived, and that law enforcement was nowhere in sight. The bar boasts an eclectic atmosphere and features dim lighting, stained glass, and vintage stools. Lunch and dinner offerings include truffle burgers, fish & chips, and brick oven pizzas (a customer favorite).
Treaty of Paris
Since the 18th century, the Treaty of Paris has served innovative cuisine made from local ingredients. Chef Tim Johnson updates the menu to reflect the season while being mindful of the longtime favorites. The restaurant is the site of many celebrations, and its period setting features wood floors, exposed brick, and a fireplace. Meals include seared chicken breast, halibut, and beef tenderloin. Treaty of Paris is just a 30-minute drive away.
